Jacob Sont

Jacob K. Sont (PhD) (M) is associate professor at the Dept. of Medical Decision Making of the Leiden Quality of Care Institute. He graduated in Biomedical Sciences at Leiden University in 1990. He specialized in clinical epidemiology and medical decision making resulting in his PhD thesis: “Airways inflammation and its sequelae in asthma: therapeutic implications”. His research is focused on patient-centred personalized care, in particular e-health, self-management and decision support. He is involved in supervising seven PhD students and is principal investigator of more than 12 pragmatic (multicentre) randomized trials and implementation studies, including two Horizon2020 projects on e-health, prediction and self-management in asthma (myAirCoach) and diabetes (Power2DM). He is the initiator of the PatientCoach web-based self-management support system for patients with diabetes, asthma/COPD, hypertension, and obesity. He has (co-)authored more than 124 peer-reviewed papers in the scientific literature (H-index 34). His research fits in the LUMC profile area Innovation in Health Strategy and Quality of Care, which is aimed at providing a scientific basis and depth for changes in health care.
